Research and Special Projects

GMATS CoursesThe Division of Research and Special Projects (RASP) conducts applied research, studies, and special projects in maritime activities to include technologies, processes, human resources, and infrastructures. RASP also manages GMATS' designation as a National Maritime Enhancement Institute (NMEI). This designation by the United States Maritime Administration (MARAD) recognizes GMATS' accomplished expertise, research and educational capabilities, and industry affiliations which contribute to the advancement of marine and intermodal transportation systems that are safe, secure, economically viable, and environmentally sensible. Our main research focus areas include:
