Military Training
Emphasizes practical "hands-on" training utilizing more than three dozen engineering and nautical science laboratories and simulators, as well as waterfront vessels and equipment. Strategic transportation and logistics courses include field visits to intermodal facilities in the Port of New York/New Jersey.
Instruction is provided by outstanding faculty, many of whom are military reservists themselves. Experts from the transportation industry, as well as military (both active and reserve), also participate in course instruction.

Over
25 courses offered (including more than a dozen USCG approved courses). These include
required STCW training programs and courses that keep shipboard merchant marine personnel
and military reservists current on technology innovations, industry practices, and
regulations that affect mariners.
Over
30 courses offered for seagoing engineers, port engineers, and professionals from
the shipbuilding, ship repair, and offshore energy industry. Courses range from steam
and diesel engine operations and repair to shipboard electronic control systems, pump
maintenance, engineering management and practical economics and management for port
engineers.
Over 25 courses offered for transportation professionals seeking to learn about leading-edge
developments in intermodal transportation and logistics management, as well as executives
seeking to understand leading edge developments in management techniques and practices.
GMATS
programs are designed to meet the transportation and management training needs of
corporate America as well as those of government and military organizations. Courses
include topics designed for management trainees and seasoned professionals who wish
to understand complex transportation and logistics systems in order to most efficiently
manage or expand the transportation activities of their organization. Courses also
include curriculum designed for mid-level managers and senior level executives. GMATS’
executive management programs are designed to enhance operational efficiency, improve
competitive advantage, and to build morale and teamwork among employees.
The Division of Research and Special Projects (RASP)
conducts applied research, studies, and special projects in maritime activities to
include technologies, processes, human resources, and infrastructures.
Customized Training
USMMA Global Maritime and Transportation School specializes in developing training
programs designed to meet the specific needs of a company or organization. Special
training programs may draw from the content of other courses listed in this or other
catalogs or they may be focused on other subject areas.
Our staff and faculty can work with your company or organization to develop
a specialized training program. Most courses are best conducted here at the
US Merchant Marine Academy utilizing our extensive laboratories, professional
classrooms, and outstanding waterfront facilities. However, with special arrangements,
some training programs may be offered on-site at your company or organizations
facility.
